The Ódry Theater belongs to the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest and it is the practice place for the students whose aim is to be actors and stage directors. This is the place where the public and the profession can meet for the first time with their performances. In every season the Ódry offers 12-14 premiers, while keeping on repertoire a few popular productions from the previous year.
The Theater was opened in 1958 and named after the legendary teacher from the thirties, Árpád Ódry. From 1904 he was a member of the Hungarian National Theatre and in 1912 he became the director. He was among the first actors who played classical roles realistically, without pathos.
The Ódry Theater has been functioning as an independent theater. It is a unique performance place because here you can witness the experimental mood, the playfulness, the fresh perspective of the young students and recent graduates. The repertoire is diverse: from the classical performances, contemporary literature and a wide variety of works are brought to the public.
