A HARMADIK FACT

The Third FACT!

The third edition of the international FACT (Festival Arts Cinema Theatre) Festival will be held between the 31 January and 3 February

What makes the FACT Festival in Budapest unique among other European theatre university festivals is that it focuses on two great art forms, theatre and film, while also holding exhibitions for students studying set and costume design.

The main goal of FACT is to allow Hungarian and international students to study each other’s works, to present their examination films and theatre productions to a larger audience, to take part in joint workshops and to build long-term working relationships.

Students from four international and two Hungarian theatre universities will have a chance to perform in front of the audience in Budapest. Productions were invited from Prague (Czech Republic), Belgrade (Serbia), Giessen (Germany), Verscio (Switzerland) and Kaposvár (Hungary), with the hosting University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest being represented by three performances.

The film programme has been expanded, so that beside our documentary and short film screenings, works by the television producer classes will also be showcased.

Our Scenography MA students will be joined by designers from two other important Hungarian art universities to hold a joint exhibition where visitors can see works created by students from the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and the  Rippl-Rónai Faculty of the Arts of the University of Kaposvár, Hungary.

This year will be the first time students from the University of Theatre and Film Arts will be organizing an OFF Programme consisting of various international workshops. Actor and director students from all participating countries will be holding sessions during the four days focusing on different topics, and creating puppet, television, theatre and dance projects together.

We will also be holding two international conferences within the framework of the festival, one about the project method and its application in artistic higher education, the other about the teaching methods of the invited universities and their experience in organizing festivals.

„Besides introducing us to young theatre artists, many of whom will become the next theatre generation, the FACT Festival also showcases new tendencies and similar modes of thinking within this colorful, diverse group.” (PUSKÁS Panni, critic, Revizor Online).

A GARDRÓB című előadás létrejötte a Divadlo Continuo (CZ) által vezetett 2018-as nemzetközi nyári „8” projekthez köthető.

THE WARDROBE was first conceived in 2018 during the international summer project “8” given by Divadlo Continuo (CZ). The setting is an unusually shaped wooden wardrobe filled with dark soil. It is a space of neglected things, unconscious desires, hidden dreams, old fears and captured memories. The performance combines the languages of dance, visual and absurd theatre, and is inspired by different historical, mythological and contemporary stories and their archetypal figures. Figures living in extreme situations of isolation.

A náci Németország lakói csendesen meghúzódnak otthonaikban. Ebédelnek, hallgatják a rádiót, beszélgetnek, telefonálnak. Közben a politika egyre jobban bekúszik az életükbe. A lakók szép lassan megváltoznak, egyes tulajdonságok felerősödnek, mások eltűnnek.

The citizens of Nazi Germany are living quietly in their homes. They have lunch, listen to the radio, talk, make phone calls. Meanwhile politics are slowly creeping into their lives. The citizens slowly change, certain aspects of their personalities become stronger, others disappear. And we all know what horrible things this could lead to.

Luckily enough we have left the horrors of dictatorship behind us. We’ve learned our lesson. No more manipulation, corruption, no more propaganda, no censorship, and all power is not held by a single party. Which is why the play is not really about our current circumstances at all. We’re just staging it out of historical curiosity.

Ten snapshots of Nazi Germany, based on Bertolt BRECHT’s Fear and Misery of the Third Reich. An examination performance.

While Camila cooks and sniffs lines of sugar, the audience joins an intimate dialogue in a kitchen exchanging stories about junk food, sugar, sex, addictions, absences and maternal love.

„I developed the live performance The Most Amazing Stories of a Daughter in order to discuss the relationship between affection and sugar, the social and parental relationship, and domination through food and sugar as a question of feelings, which is also related to capitalism.”

In this piece the artist looks into the last time she talked with her mother while cooking ‘brigadeiro’, a traditional Brazilian sweet for her 9th birthday party.

Filip GRUJIĆ’s play is about young people whose ideal is to be a part of a group where everything is clear, where there are no emotions, and where they do not have to think for themselves. In it we follow three young people who are unable to free themselves from the influence of their family heritage and become accomplished individuals. Thus they join the newly opened recruiting center in Belgrade in hope of salvation. Through their stories we get a glimpse into three family dramas – and also get a picture of the problems young Serbians inherit from their past, and will perhaps have to deal with far into the future.

Victim of his own superstitions, a cemetery guardian, performing his daily duties, finds himself in a weird situation. During a night like all the others, he is obliged to lend his body to invisible beings… From decision to action, present to past, from life to death – to which musical rhythm will our soul dance to in the great beyond?

Mea Culpa is a solo performance that combines the use of masks, sound, physical theater, dance and a few spoken words. Wishing to further develop a theatrical identity in the African environment, Charles Nomwendé TIENDREBÉOGO also offers some possibilities on the prospective use of the African mask.

NOWADAYS

HOJSZA Henrietta koreográfusi munkája Sosztakovics I. a-moll hegedűversenyére készült. A tánc tökéletes forma ezek megfogalmazására.

The choreographer’s work was inspired Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor. The piece is made up of four movements, and allows us to discuss topics that, though they may be a part of our everyday lives, we do not want to accept. Dance is the perfect form to stage them.

A koreográfia kiindulópontja Robert BURNS Felföld, hegyeim című versének Arvo PÄRT által komponált zeneműve.

“Felföld: oda, csak oda vonz a szívem!

Felföld: oda, csak oda!… Fegyveresen

száguld a vadász… fut előtte az őz:

Felföldön a szívem, akárhol időz!”

The choreography was based on Arvo PÄRT’s musical adaptation of Robert BURNS’ poem: My Heart’s in the Highlands.

„My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,

My heart’s in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;

Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,

My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.”

The fruit of the collaboration between Li LORIAN (Jerusalem) and Marc VILLANUEVA MIR (Barcelona) this lecture-performance is a visual and conceptual journey between Jerusalem and Barcelona, with Giessen serving as the meeting point. In Correspondence #1 the artists deal with their personal queries about these places and their political complexities in the frame of two recent events and the current struggles evolved around them: the Catalan referendum to declare independence on the one hand, and Trump’s announcement of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on the other. Between reality and fiction, they investigate the performative power that such declarations and statements have on the landscape, and explore the entanglement of the ideas of utopia and dystopia in our realities.

A III. éves színművész osztály előadása.

“MAX: Gabriel, merész ember a bátyád, nevén nevezi a dolgokat, arról beszél, amiről mi félünk hangosan megszólalni.

“MAX: Gabriel, your brother is a brave man, he is not afraid to tell it like it is, to talk about things we don’t dare speak about. We all hear the Lord whispering in our hearts, but are ashamed to admit it. I’m sure Matthias can hear it too. Come on, Matthias, admit that I’m right.

MATTHIAS: But this is so stupid.

GABRIEL: Don’t be afraid, we won’t tell anyone.

RUDOLF: Your colleagues won’t hear about how you can hear the Lord whispering in your heart, even though they all can too.

MATTHIAS: Yes, you all just drank too much and lost control.

MAX: We got drunk and confessed things to ourselves that we cannot confess to when we are sober.”

Dokumentumfilmek

Vanessza, a fiatal roma lány élete nagy lehetőségére, egy rangos boksz gálára készül. A kis, vidéki edzőteremből a bajnokságig hosszú az út, ám gondoskodó edzője segítségével talán legyőzhető a számtalan akadály.

Vanessza, the young Roma girl is getting prepared for the chance of her lifetime, a presigeous boxing-tournament. The road is long from the small countryside gym to the tournament, but with the help of her trainer, they may be able to go against all odds.

István a lakótelep fodrásza. Szalonjában mindennap váltják egymást a környék lakói, akik saját problémáik súlyával ülnek a fodrászszékbe.

István is a hairdresser in a Hungarian suburban housing estate. Every day there is a new client with whom Istvan begins a conversation…

Miyu, egy fiatal japán lány, azért küzd, hogy álmát valóra válthassa: profi balett táncos szeretne lenni. A szakmát jelenleg Budapesten tanulja, több ezer kilométerre családjától.

Miyu, a young Japanese girl is trying to fulfil her dream of becoming a professional ballerina – all this in Europe, Budapest, with no family by her side. Despite facing disadvantages such as her height or language and cultural barrier, she is fighting to win her biggest competition to date. Miyu believes the following: “a problem is your chance to do your best”.

Era fled to the countryside. Away from the person who used her. She is living in a ramshackle little house, in a place where most people condemn her for the way she makes her living. But then she meets a Chinese filmmaker who lends her a sympathetic ear.

Amíg a nők dolgoznak, addig a férfiak a kocsmában töltik a napot. Egy különleges falu, ahol a nők munkája másfajta örömöket szolgál, mint a kocsmai italozás.

While the women work, the men spend their days in the pub. A unique village, where women find joy in their work – a joy unlike the one found drinking in pubs.

Forty years focuses on Ica and Imre, a couple in their mid-sixties. The woman prepares herself to die, however, the man cannot accept it. After a while, he realizes that he’s unable to do anything, so he resigns himself to the inevitable. In the time they’ve got left, he’s trying to make her happy, the way he has been doing for the last forty years, with more or less success.

Kárpáti Anikó (61) utolsó napját követjük végig, mielőtt végleg elhagyja az országot, hogy lánya családjához költözzön. Az idősödő nő őrült rohanásba kezd, melynek egyetlen célja, hogy végérvényesen lezárja itthoni életét. A zaklatott nap végén azonban kénytelen szembenézni mindazzal, amit maga mögött hagyott, és azzal, ami előtte áll.

Anikó, 61, is about to leave Hungary to move in with her daughter’s family in the UK. This is her final day before leaving everything she used to know behind.

The story of an encounter about the blurry and mostly invisible boundaries of human relationships.

A lonely woman in war-torn Sarajevo embarks on a journey to find water, and neither her neighbors nor sniper fire can stop her.

Kiállítás

A Színház és Filmművészeti Egyetem MA látványtervező szakos tavaly diplomázott és jelenlegi hallgatóinak bemutatkozó kiállítása a hallgatók diplomamunkái mellett egy kis ízelítőt ad a kétéves képzés során készített művekből is. A munkákkal a látványtervezés sokoldalúsága kerül bemutatásra: jelmeztervezés, játéktervezés, animáció, stop motion, színházi- és filmes látványtervezés, karaktertervezés, concept art és 3D tervezés.

The new exhibition of current and recently graduated Scenography MA students from the University of Theatre and Film Arts showcases their diploma works, while also giving viewers a glimpse of the work done at the university during the two-year training program. The collection reflects the multiple facets of scenography: costume designs, game designs, animation, stop motion, theatre and film scenic designs, character designs, concept art and 3D designs will all be among the works.

A Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem látványtervezőinek mind az öt évfolyama képviselteti magát az alap- és mesterszakos hallgatók féléves munkáiból válogatott kiállításon, amelyen többek közt színházi látványterveket, maketteket, díszlet-, jelmez- és bábterveket is láthatnak az érdeklődők.

All five years of the Scenography BA and MA students from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts will be exhibiting examination pieces as a part of this exhibition. Visitors will be able to see their theatre scenography designs, mock-ups, set, costume and even puppet designs.

Az idei FACT kiállításon első- és harmadéves látványtervező hallgatóink 2018/2019 év őszi szemeszterének munkáiból nyújtunk válogatást. Az első szemeszterben egymásra épülő, az absztrakt gondolkodást fejlesztő szín- és térkompozíciós feladatokkal, míg az ötödikben Brecht műveivel foglalkoztak a hallgatók: A kaukázusi krétakör, A szecsuáni jólélek, A kurázsi mama című drámákat álmodták színpadra.  Etűd-feladatként pedig Bartók A kékszakállú herceg vára című művéhez készítettek terveket.

This year’s FACT will have an exhibition of the work done by first and third-year students during the Autumn semester of the 2018/2019 school year. During the first semester students studied the basics of abstract color usage and composition, while students in their fifth semester made designs for plays by Brecht like The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Good Person of Szechwan and Mother Courage. They also created etude pieces based on Bluebeard’s Castle by BARTÓK Béla.
