INTERNATIONAL THEATRE WORKSHOP - SOPRON 2025

In the summer of 2025, the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE), in cooperation with the National Theatre of Hungary and the University of Sopron, will jointly organize the International Theatre Workshop – Sopron 2025 between 1 and 9 July. This will be the second edition of the highly successful international summer program, an intensive nine-day creative workshop where Hungarian and international acting students work side by side with renowned Hungarian and foreign directors and instructors on the campus of the University of Sopron. The aim of the program is to bring together participants from theatre schools in different countries through joint training sessions and collaborative creative processes, to explore each other’s theatrical traditions and methodologies, and to foster new forms of cooperation.

Program structure

Morning training sessions (July 2–6)

During the mornings, students work with teachers from their own institutions and invited guest teachers, using various theatre schools. The aim of the training sessions is to establish a common theatrical language, to raise awareness of the body, voice, and movement, and to gain practical knowledge of different pedagogical traditions.

Afternoon creative workshops

In the afternoons, participating students are divided into mixed international groups of 12–15 people, whose work is supervised by six young directing students. The goal is that by the end of the workshop, on July 8, each group will have created a 20-25 minute performance that reflects on the theme of Romeo and Juliet from a contemporary perspective.
