Details of the movement masterclass:

The goal of the 12-week masterclass is to develop body awareness and teach basic dance techniques. When it comes to acting, it is essential to cultivate body awareness, physical condition, continuous development and maintenance of endurance, understanding the physical presence, possibilities, and limitations of the body, and enhancing movement coordination and physical abilities. The course includes the conscious awareness and controlled direction of body parts and muscles, mastering techniques of tension and relaxation, developing the use of the body necessary for theatrical expression, differentiating and using muscles in a refined manner, understanding and utilizing non-verbal communication and body language, and preparing the body to portray various emotional states and situations. Students will experience the freedom found in movement, improve movement coordination, expand their dance knowledge, and apply these skills according to the requirements of a given performance.

In addition to developing body awareness, physical condition, and endurance, the masterclass will familiarize students with the possibilities and limitations of their physical presence. Enhancing movement coordination and physical abilities. Raising awareness of and controlling body parts and muscles. Mastering tension and relaxation techniques. Developing the body use necessary for theatrical expression. Differentiating and using muscles in a refined manner. Understanding and utilizeing non-verbal communication and body language. Preparing the body to portray various emotional states and situations. Experiencing the sense of freedom found in movement. Mastering the basic elements of different movement forms and styles. Understanding posture, positioning, movement, sign language, gestures, and facial expressions, and developing improvisational skills. It aims to build the self-discipline required for acting and the need for regular physical activity.

As part of the theoretical component of the course, students will have the opportunity to transform dramatic text into stage text, taking character development into consideration. This will be achieved through a continuous, meticulously structured series of sample analyses and practical exercises.

Course Syllabus:

Weeks 1-3: Introduction to body awareness, correct posture, and positioning. Understanding basic dance concepts such as directions and spatial organization. Introduction to floor techniques: sensing body weight, isolating body parts, and conditioning the body. Awareness and coordination of body position during rolls, tumbles, and swings. Preparation techniques for sliding, falling, and shoulder rolls. Exploration of unusual contact points and various possibilities for lifting and returning to the floor.

Weeks 4-6: Social dance – overview of the history and cultural background of the Cha-Cha-Cha. Exploration of the music and basic steps of Cha-Cha-Cha and Salsa. Rhythm exercises, Viennese Waltz combinations, and spinning rhythm exercises. Practice of combinations.

Weeks 7-9: Fashion dance – training and learning choreography. Choreography breakdown:

  • 1/3: 4×8 counts.
  • 2/3: 4 + 4×8 counts.
  • 3/3: 4 + 4 + 4×8 counts.
  • 1/3: 2×8 counts.
  • 2/3: 2 + 2×8 counts.
  • 3/3: 2 + 2 + 2×8 counts.

Includes stretching exercises.

Weeks 10-12: Tap dance – learning the basics of tap dance, including the warm-up sequence. Techniques for balance and weight transfer. Analysis and practice of special tap movements. Introduction to single-sound techniques (Step, Stamp, Stomp, Heel, Brush, Toe, Dig, Scuff, Hop, Jump) and binding forms for basic and double-sound techniques.
