dr. János Vecsernyés

János Vecsernyés is a Hungarian cinematographer, director, member of the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers and the Hungarian Press Gallery. In 1999 he was awarded the Special Prize of the Hungarian Film Festival, and in 2008 he was awarded the Béla Balázs Prize in recognition of his work as a director. Since 2000 he has been a lecturer at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, and since 2010 he has been an associate professor.

Our Institution

Based on its decades of experience in education, the Institute organises training in close cooperation with the six specialisations of the Film and Television Studies major (film and television directing, film writing, production management, sound editing, cinematography and editing), in order to promote the creation of workshops that are an essential part of filmmaking.

MA

Master of Arts in Visual Design
The Master’s Degree in Visual Design Artist is designed to train visual professionals who, upon completion of their studies, will be able to work in any segment of the cultural field of the moving image, from the design of artistic and entertainment games to the creation of social and educational games, as well as being skilled in the creation of visual effects and animations and having a profound knowledge of the related computer programs, thus becoming creative members of both national and international film-visual communication workshops.

Master of Arts in Film Directing
The aim of the course is to enable students to become autonomous creators, capable of creating individual, high-quality artistic works. The Master of Arts in Film Directing at the School of Film Studies is open to graduates who have received appropriate training in film and wish to further develop their knowledge based on their previous theoretical and practical experience.

Master of Arts in Film Cinematography
The aim of the course is to enable students to become autonomous creators and to be able to work as cinematographers on artistic works of high professional quality, based on the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the course.

Documentary Filmmaker – Master of Arts in English
The course is a 4-semester Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme in English, delivered by three universities (the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Universidade Lusofona, Portugal and LUCA School of Arts – Brussels, Belgium). Students are admitted spending the first semester in Portugal, the second in Hungary and the third in Belgium, and the fourth in one of the three institutions. At the end of the course, students will receive a joint degree.

Documentary Filmmaker
The graduates will be able to create high quality documentary films in the national and international film and television industry and will be able to work in the field of film, television and other cinematographic works, as well as to teach and disseminate cinematographic culture.

BA in television programme production

The goal is to educate adaptable television experts who possess current understanding of social sciences, public affairs, culture, economics, and visual arts, enabling them to work effectively in all aspects of television production including conceptualization, preparation and production, directing, editing, reporting, post-production, and editing.

Film- and television directing
The aim of the training is to equip graduates with the skills to become members of creative teams working in the fields of artistic and entertainment film production, commercials, television and video art productions, web visuals and visual effects.

Film Sound editing
The aim of the course is to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge required for sound production work in the cinematographic field, from preparation to shooting and post-production.

Film Editing
The aim is to train professionals who are able to work alongside the director in post-production, in the assembly of the filmed material and in the final form of film and television productions.

Film Writing
The aim is to train professionals who, with their knowledge of cinematography and film dramaturgy, are able to participate as a creative partner in the production of national and foreign films as a film writer (scriptwriter, dramaturg).
